This is a very large woollen scarf from the tribal people of the Kutch district of Gujarat, India. Because of its vast tracts of deserts and marshes, Gujarat, one of India’ least populated regions and is mainly inhabited by local tribal people.
This original scarf featuring the tie and dye motif, is coloured in red, brown and black. The ends of the scarf as well as the centre are embroidered.
This is a unique example of antique tribal textiles from India.
