The Shyrdak rug is traditionally made by the nomad tribes of Kyrgyzstan - living in remote mountainous regions of Central Asia the nomads moved with the seasons. Living in white felt yurts, decorated on the floors and walls with Shyrdak Felt Rugs.
Their flock of sheep provided everything: wool for their clothes, their house (the yurt is made from felt), their beds, wall and floor coverings. The wool goes through many processes, washing, beating, rolling, dying before it becomes felt fabric. Shyrdaks rugs are made from many layers of contrasting felt. Cut using a template, the layers are then sewn together to create abstract repetitive patterns inspired by flora and fauna..
Incredibly warm and in sumptuous colours - these tribal nomad rugs fit perfectly into western interiors.
